What Is Heartfelt Poetry? Why Simple Poems Connect Deeper Than You Think

Most people have a complicated relationship with poetry.

They remember being handed a poem in school and being told to analyze it. To find the hidden meaning. To identify the literary devices. By the time they finished picking it apart, whatever feeling the poem might have created was long gone – replaced by a grade.

That is not what poetry is supposed to be.

Poetry, at its best, is the simplest thing in the world. It is a feeling put into words. It is someone else saying what you have been carrying around in your chest for years, finally out loud, in a way that makes you feel less alone.

That is what heartfelt poetry is. And it is far more powerful than it gets credit for.

The Problem With “Difficult” Poetry

Some poetry invites careful study, layered interpretation, and close reading. There’s real value in that. But for many people, it has also created the impression that every poem needs to be decoded before it can be enjoyed..

The truth is that the most powerful lines ever written are usually the simplest ones. A few words that stop you cold. A phrase that makes you put the book down for a minute. A line you copy into your phone so you do not forget it.

Simple language is not a weakness in poetry. It is one of the hardest things to do well – and when it works, it lands in a way that complicated verse rarely can.

Why Simple Poems Stay With You

Think about the poems or lyrics you have memorized without trying to. The lines that came back to you on a hard day. The words you wanted to read at a funeral or send to a friend going through something difficult.

They were almost certainly simple. Direct. Human.

Heartfelt poetry works because it does not ask you to translate it. It does not make you earn the feeling. It just gives it to you – and then trusts you to know what to do with it.

Poetry Written for Real People

That is the whole idea behind Words From The Heart.

After years of writing quietly – sitting by the water, listening to music, watching the lights – I came to believe that the people who needed poetry most were those who believed it wasn’t for them. The ones who never felt like they were smart enough or educated enough to “get it.”

My poems are not puzzles. They are not academic exercises. They are words written to be felt. To remind you of someone you’ve been meaning to call for far too long. To say the thing you have been meaning to say to someone you love. To sit with you on a hard night when the world feels like too much.

That is heartfelt poetry. And it is for everyone.

Family, friends, relationships, and passion are the main reasons I wrote these words. This created a deep need in my heart to compile them into a book format and share my words with everyone who has ever felt love or friendship.

If these words resonate with you, I invite you to explore my three poetry collections; they are available at wordsftheart.com/shop. I hope you’ll find one that speaks to your own heart.
